I love Denver and I think it's really important to give back to the community. One of the things I love to do is to take photos of dogs and cats that are available for adoption. I think a great photo helps people think of the dog or cat as family. Not only is it much easier to picture that cute little guy with the floppy ears and big smile playing with you and your children but it's more likely to get shared on social media networks providing a wider audience and a much higher chance that pet will find a family. I've been providing free weekly sessions to shelters for several years now and am a member of HeartsSpeak.
Currently, I'm working with the Flint Animal Care Center at Colorado State University taking photos of dog and human cancer survivors and fundraising events for them to use for marketing materials, fundraisers, and even on a car in the Indy 500!!
PawsCo brings dogs and cats that are about to be euthanized from rural shelters in Colorado and find foster families and adoptive families for them. Everyone at this organization works hard to save animals. It's an outstanding group of people that volunteer there. As a director of photography, I get to squish and cuddle adoptable dogs and cats before I photograph them.
I'm also a community partner with the Denver Animal Shelter. Not only do I provide photography sessions for the adoptable pets, but I also take photos of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Denver's "pet of the month." It's a fun way to get publicity for a deserving animal looking for a forever home and I'm proud to be part of this project.
